RatBoy
Ratboy is an alternative/indie hip hop band from Essex, UK. He started making music in 2013 and so is relatively new to the industry. All his logos are DIY, Ratboy likes to create his own unique image by using paints and fabrics. He also used to graffiti the word SCUM on road signs and walls. Ratboy is known for his very different artistic creations. He turned one of his drawings into a mascot for his music videos, called scum. His art is very popular between his fan base as characters like scum are strange and different. As Ratboy hasn't released an actual album yet, only EP's, he's experimented with a range of different colours, fonts and sizes. His most well known cover is "sign on (2015)" the vibrant pink with solid white characters stands out from the piece. The typography is also something i'd personally associated with alternative creations. He tries very hard to create an image nobody else has, giving him the features to stand out from competitors such as Jamie T. Ratboy has also recently opened clothing line called FAKESCUM. on his tours, he also makes SCUM socks, hats and T-shirts. He tends to wear vintage/retro clothing alongside modern art pieces. He also wears thumb rings, chains and has several piercings, his style does individualize himself as some of what he wears is his own product. By wearing it, it promotes it at the same time. As Ratboy is still growing, he doesn't really get much public attention, on his UK tour in 2016, his mascot Scum wore a F**k Tory Britain denim jacket. As his demographic is typically teenagers, this would influence the younger generation to vote for another political party. In several interviews he does come across as quite arrogant and cocky by swearing and joking about but as a young adult he is, this is probably expected. Like Green Day, his social media posts reach a larger audience than a normal working person. He has the ability to influence his demographic through fashion and popularity. As a growing artist, social media is key in spreading the word about his music. He regularly posts on his Twitter and Instagram showing his followers behind the scenes to prop making for his videos and how he makes stencil outlines for his clothing and logos. Most of his tweets are about him, his art and samples of potential music for his new album SCUM. He doesn't use hashtags often nd gains followers through general interest for his music. He tweets about the possible opportunities he'd like to take if he gets bigger and earns more money. He regularly uses the proliferation of the internet to livestream while he's in the studio, typically answering questions or making the props. He doesn't have a set stage presence as of yet but he's already headlines huge festivals such as Boardmasters and Reading.
